Back That Up examines the funny and frustrating examples of bias that senior women engineers and engineering executives have encountered working in software development shops in the American South. We talk about how we responded in the moment and what we would do differently now that we have more experience. If you're an early-career professional in the industry -- or you just can't take your eyes off a good train wreck -- this show is for you. Together, we can commiserate, enlighten, and eliminate bias in the industry!Elke Erfolg im Beruf Ökonomie

Back That Up Episode 2 - Bullies Unfortunately, bullying doesn't end when you leave primary school. Even in professional settings you'll find people who try to get their way through threats, intimidation, and manipulation. Dealing with a bully at work can be frightening. Especially if the bully is consistent in their torment. In this episode, I talk about bullying and how I handled it. It wasn't the best. What should I have done differently? When I started working in the software field, I had no idea what to expect other than at the height of the Y2K crisis, the money was good. Looking back, I can see how a couple small changes, both internal and external, could have made it easier to get up to speed. What were some of your first moves when you entered the profession? Here's what I might do if I were starting fresh: 1. Find a network. There's probably a local chapter of Women in Technology where you are. They're great. 2. Find a mentor. They can help you navigate some of the pitfalls. 3. Speak up. You know stuff. Share it with your colleagues. 4. Ask questions. You're new to the profession and there's a lot to learn.
