Short Devotional: “Kept by the Power of God”

    Scripture:

“Who are kept by the power of God through faith…” — 1 Peter 1:5 (NKJV)

Nursing often asks more than we feel we have to give. We show up tired, burdened, and sometimes quietly discouraged—yet still called to care.

Peter reminds us that our hope is not sustained by strength or circumstance, but by God’s power. We are kept—guarded, preserved, and held—through faith. Even in seasons of waiting, like Hannah, God is at work beneath the surface. Before Hannah’s prayer was answered, her heart was steadied by hope. Nothing changed outwardly, yet everything changed inwardly.

Christian nurse, your faithfulness is not unnoticed. When your hands are weary and your heart feels heavy, remember: you are not holding your life together—God is holding you.

    Prayer:

Lord, anchor my heart in living hope. When I feel worn down, remind me that I am kept by Your power and sustained by Your mercy. Help me serve today from trust, not striving. Amen.

In Season 2, Episode 7 of The Anchored Nurse, we continue our Christmas series by focusing on Emmanuel—God with us. Jesus didn’t come to observe suffering from a distance. He came as a baby, walked among us, and 33 years later laid down His life to save us from our sins.

For nurses who work in hard places, this episode is a reminder that Christ is present in every dark room, every weary shift, and every moment we feel unseen.

  • Season 2, Episode 6: “The Ugly Truth of Christmas: Why a Savior Had to Come"
    Dec 29 2025

    Send us a text

Christmas didn’t begin with cozy lights or peaceful songs—it began because humanity was broken beyond repair.

In Season 2, Episode 6 of The Anchored Nurse, Paula and Melinda confront the ugliness of Christmas: the darkness, sin, and desperation that made the incarnation necessary. Drawing from Scripture (NKJV) and the theological teaching often emphasized by John MacArthur, this episode explores why Jesus didn’t come to improve humanity—but to rescue it.

Together, we examine biblical figures like Adam, David, and Isaiah, reflect on the human condition nurses encounter daily, and consider how understanding the depth of our brokenness actually anchors our hope. For nurses working in suffering, exhaustion, and moral complexity, this episode reframes Christmas as God’s decisive intervention—not sentiment, but salvation.

✨We are broken, He came and saved us. He's coming back.

📖 “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast…” (Hebrews 6:19, NKJV)

In Numbers 22–24, God takes a pagan diviner named Balaam, fills him with His Spirit, and turns intended curses into powerful blessings over His people. And in Balaam’s final oracle, he sees something breathtaking:

“A Star shall come out of Jacob, a Scepter shall rise out of Israel.” (Num. 24:17)

This ancient prophecy points straight to Jesus—the true Star and everlasting King.

    Episode Summary

In this episode, Paula and Melinda dive into the Christian virtue of compassion — what it truly means to see others through the eyes of Christ and to act with His love. They explore the compassion of Jesus, the example of the Good Samaritan, and how believers can show compassion in both professional nursing practice and personal relationships.

This conversation reminds us that compassion isn’t a fleeting emotion — it’s a deliberate act of love rooted in forgiveness, prayer, and presence. Whether at the bedside or in our homes, compassion anchors us in the heart of Christ.

    Nursing Takeaways

    • Compassion in practice: True nursing care goes beyond clinical tasks; it’s about presence, empathy, and advocacy.
    • Spiritual care: Praying for patients (silently or aloud) invites the Holy Spirit into the healing process.
    • Boundaries and self-compassion: Jesus often withdrew to rest — compassion for others begins with compassion for yourself.
    • Forgiveness in the workplace: Choose grace with colleagues and patients, reflecting Christ even in stressful environments.

    Life & Marriage Reflections

    • Compassion in marriage means responding with gentleness instead of reacting with judgment.
    • Forgiveness and tenderness keep hearts soft and marriages Christ-centered.
    • Compassion also means extending grace to yourself — you are loved and forgiven in Christ.

    🕊️

    Reflection Questions

    1. Who in your life right now needs the compassion of Christ through you?
    2. When have you experienced God’s compassion during your nursing practice or in your marriage?
    3. Are there people you need to forgive — or do you need to forgive yourself?
    4. How can you intentionally “put on” compassion this week (Colossians 3:12)?

    🙏

    Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us what true compassion looks like.

Help us to see people through Your eyes — not as interruptions, but as divine opportunities to love.

Fill our hearts with mercy and gentleness. Teach us to forgive, to serve humbly, and to extend grace even when it’s hard.

May Your compassion flow through our words, our hands, and our lives.

In Your holy name we pray, Amen.
