On the debut episode of “A Woman’s Right To Pleasure,” Stoya and the book’s Editor in Chief Alexandra Weiss are joined by writer, filmmaker and host of “The Sex Ed podcast,” Liz Goldwyn, and legendary visual artist Marilyn Minter. Marilyn is an American artist known for her hyper-realistic paintings and portraits that explore sexuality and female agency. Spanning over five decades, her radical work is recognized for redefining the realm of feminist art. Liz is a writer, filmmaker and artist based in Los Angeles, who previously worked as the New York Editor of French Vogue. Her 2006 HBO documentary, “Pretty Things,” showcases “the last generation of American 'Burlesque Queens' as told by a young woman searching to discover the lost art of burlesque dance.” In 2018, she also launched The Sex Ed, a podcast and digital platform dedicated to health, consciousness and sex.
In this episode, we discuss the male gaze in art and pornography, the female gaze, the controversy and history of female pubic hair, the current state of the porn industry with sites like PornHub and OnlyFans, ecosexuality and goddess worship, the shame and stigma surrounding pornography, female sexual fantasies and their relationship with the patriarchy, censorship, slut-shaming, the illusion of social media and owning your power.
