  • Philipp Hildebrand on Re-thinking Policy in a World of Uncertainty

    In this episode, recorded on March 25, 2025, we are joined by Philipp Hildebrand, G30 member and Vice Chairman of BlackRock. Philipp joined BlackRock in 2012. Prior to that, he served as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank. In that capacity, he was also a Director of the Bank for International Settlements, the Swiss Governor of the International Monetary Fund, and a member of the Financial Stability Board of which the Leaders of the G20 appointed him Vice Chairman in 2011. Previously, Philipp was Chief Investment Officer of a Swiss private bank and a partner at Moore Capital Management in London.

    In this conversation, Philipp shares his insights on the global macroeconomic outlook, the opportunity for the European Union, the potential of European capital markets, and the implications of rising global fragmentation.

  • Episode 13: Mohamed El-Erian's Perspectives on US Economic Outlook, China's Middle-Income Trap, and the UK's Performance

    Today we are joined by G30 member Mohamed El-Erian. Dr. El-Erian is the President of Queens’ College, Cambridge, and holds several prestigious roles, including Chief Economic Advisor at Allianz, Chair of Gramercy Fund Management, and the Rene M. Kern Professor of Practice at The Wharton School. He was the CEO and co-CIO of PIMCO from 2007 to 2014, and has been a columnist for Bloomberg Opinion and the Financial Times. El-Erian serves on the boards of Barclays, Under Armour, and various non-profits, including the NBER. He chaired President Obama’s Global Development Council from 2012 to 2017.

    El-Erian’s career includes 15 years at the IMF and two years as CEO of Harvard Management Company. He has been recognized as a top global thinker by Foreign Policy and a LinkedIn Top Influencer. His 2008 book When Markets Collide was a bestseller and won the Financial Times/Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year and was named a book of the year by The Economist and one of the best business books of all time by the Independent (UK).

    Mr. El-Erian offers his perspective on the US economic outlook, China's transition to a high-income country, and the UK under its new government.

    Today we are joined by esteemed G30 member Jean-Claude Trichet. He is honorary chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bruegel Institute, honorary chairman of the Group of Thirty, and former European chairman of the Trilateral Commission.

    Jean-Claude Trichet was President of the European Central Bank from 2003 to 2011. He was Governor of Banque de France and Undersecretary of the French Treasury. He was President of the Paris Club (debt rescheduling), President of the European Monetary Committee, President of the Group of 10 Central Banks Governors. and President of the Global economy meeting in Basel. Jean-Claude was named “Person of the Year” by the Financial Times in 2007 and n° 5 of the “World Most Powerful” in the Newsweek list (2008).

    Mr. Trichet gives us insight into his perspectives of the European Economy, French Politics, and his outlook for the future of the EU.
