In 2020, Isabel Thottam and Neil Bhave were living on Hawai'i Island and, amid the pandemic, started a baking business from their home. They debuted their food business, Happy Heart Kona, at the Pure Kona Green farmers market in Kealakekua and, within 6 months, found themselves opening a retail storefront. What was a dream come true to run a food business ultimately ended with the pair closing the cafe and moving off the island. In this episode, Isabel and Neil share their story of starting and closing the cafe and share insight into what it's like to run a small food business, especially in Hawaii.
