Harrow the Ninth, the sequel to the sensational, USA Today best-selling novel Gideon the Ninth, turns a galaxy inside out as one necromancer struggles to survive the wreckage of herself aboard the emperor's haunted space station.

She answered the emperor's call.

She arrived with her arts, her wits, and her only friend.

In victory, her world has turned to ash.

After rocking the cosmos with her deathly debut, Tamsyn Muir continues the story of the penumbral Ninth House in Harrow the Ninth, a mind-twisting puzzle box of mystery, murder, magic, and mayhem. Nothing is as it seems in the halls of the emperor, and the fate of the galaxy rests on one woman's shoulders.

Harrowhark Nonagesimus, last necromancer of the Ninth House, has been drafted by her emperor to fight an unwinnable war. Side-by-side with a detested rival, Harrow must perfect her skills and become an angel of undeath - but her health is failing, her sword makes her nauseous, and even her mind is threatening to betray her.

Sealed in the Gothic gloom of the emperor's Mithraeum with three unfriendly teachers, hunted by the mad ghost of a murdered planet, Harrow must confront two unwelcome questions: Is somebody trying to kill her? And if they succeeded, would the universe be better off?

At first, I was really upset like really upset it was 2nd person, but then I was like you know what it's working and I proceeded to plunge into this hole of darkness and confusion that had become the brain of Harrowhark Nonagesimus.

I loved descending into absolute madness with Harrow.

Beautifully read! I am now a really big fan of Moira Quirk.
Aside from that the story is amazing if a little hard to get into at the beginning.
Harrow’s mind is a bit jumbled and confused and so is the narration in some flashback chapters but it makes so much sense in hindsight that the conclusion has a real nice pay off!
We delve deeper into the mythology of Lyctorhood and the King Undying so strap in for necromancy, millennia of drama, rivalry and scheming with Harrowhark smack in the middle of it.
Also, side note, you will want to have the 3rd part immediately but you’ll have to wait til 2021 so keep that in mind ;)

Wow, confusing, amazing, YES!

... dann ergibt alles einen Sinn (dafür 1 Punkt Abzug). Packend, schwarzhumorig, gothic, mit verschmitzten Pop Culture Referenzen, sympathisch-creepy Charakteren und echt guten Plottwists. Alte Bekannte und facettenreiche neue. Ich kann Teil 3 kaum erwarten!!!

Am besten zweimal anhören

you will be confused. pay attention, it will be unraveled and it will not be what you would expect. Every detail is important. but you went through book 1, so dig in.

confused and shocked

I have read and listened to many good books, but this series has to be somewhere on the absolute top.

The characters are amazing (yes, all of them, there was not one that bored me even in the slightest), the humour is spot on and had me snorting or laughing out loud many times. Story and worldbuilding...chef's kiss. An absolute masterpiece imo, I can't give enough praise (in case you didn't notice lol). Big thumbs up to the reader, too - she's perfect for the job.
Can't wait for Nona & Alecto.

One of my absolute favourites.
