As Always a great Voice reading it.
And as Always more depth for the Marines and Primarchs we know.
A battle that is fought with Bolter and carmine Blade.
A Battle fought with psiker and psychology
Betrayals good and bad.
And as is fitting for a Tale of Angels and Daemons: a battle fought on the Plane of the soul, the heart and the very character.
It might not be one of the Best Heresy Novels, but it is definitely a great one - for its ambitious task alone.
It only falls short with some of the characterisations and the shift from interpersonal to mythological drama... here its gears grind but to me at least deliberately enough to convey the feelings of the characters thrown into hell to defend themselves.
And only looking back I realised how different the first Half turned out compared to the second.
In the end no one can say he won. And if... only a pyrrhic victory, payed for in Blood, Faith and Ideals, all now spent, leaving everyone compromised.
Biggest Plus gets the Epilogue - for a punishment long time coming.
Next stop: The Unremembered Empire...

This book is highly recommended for anyone interested in the Blood Angels and Sanguinius. You don't need to have read the previous HH novels.

I’m not a fan of the narrator, though. The passages where he simply reads the text aloud are fine, but as soon as he starts trying to do different voices, I found myself getting really annoyed at times.
