Über diesen Titel
I left Vermont on the most painful day of my life and swore I’d never go back. Meadows Park–the shuttered amusement park that’s been in my family for generations–is the home of all my finest and worst memories. They all star Peter Landry–the best friend I ever had, and the only guy I’ve ever loved.
But then my eccentric grandfather buried two million dollars on the property and couldn’t remember where.
So I’m back, and asking Peter for help. He’s an Ivy League lawyer now. Still gorgeous, and able to gut me with a single smile. And I’m still a disappointment, living in the city and washing dishes to get by. As soon as we strike off down the first sunlit path, the Meadows Park magic begins to fill my heart with yearning, lust, and most dangerous of all—dreams.
I’m secretly relieved each time the day ends, leaving us empty-handed. I know it’s wrong—without that money, we could lose the park.
But if I find the treasure, I lose the guy....
©2022 Rachel Ember (P)2022 Heart Eyes Press LLCThe book started strong and kept me invested early on. I really loved both MMCs, their shared history, and the quiet affection between them. However, somewhere around the 50% mark, the story began to lose its focus for me. Instead of leaning into character development and the evolving love story, the plot shifted heavily toward the missing money and the grandfather — and that storyline dragged far longer than it should have.
While the MMCs do find their way back to each other and finally admit their feelings around the 80% mark, it felt oddly unsatisfying that they still couldn’t define their relationship. No boyfriends, no together, no dating — which felt strange and emotionally distant so late in the book. To make matters worse, the mystery of the missing money isn’t resolved until about 95%, leaving very little room for emotional fallout, resolution, or a satisfying epilogue.
Although I truly liked both characters and enjoyed their chemistry, the spark, tension, and emotional intensity I was craving never quite landed for me. The extended focus on the grandfather’s storyline distracted from the romance and diluted the emotional payoff.
That said, the narration was a mixed bag — but largely the saving grace of this audiobook.
Stephen Dexter, one of my all-time favorite narrators, was excellent as always. Honestly, if he narrates, I’ll listen — no questions asked. Rudy Sanda was a new voice for me, and while his natural voice suited Peter well, his imitation of Riley (Stephen Dexter’s character) and some of the other voices felt a bit cringe and pulled me out of the story at times. Not enjoyable for me personally — but this is just my honest opinion.
Thankfully, this was another shorter installment, similar to Unmanageable, which worked well for the concept of the Vino Veritas series and prevented the pacing issues from becoming even more pronounced.
⭐ Final Breakdown
Story: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
Writing: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
Character Development: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
Spice: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
Narration: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)
Overall: A strong premise, lovable characters, and a nostalgic setting — but uneven pacing and misplaced focus kept this from reaching its full emotional potential.
A Nostalgic Setting, but the Spark Fell Short

But the whole book felt as if it only touched the surface of feelings, conflicts and history. How is it possible that Lemon is the most interesting character of this book?!
I really liked that the friend group Peter and then also Riley have is so great, I love that they are so present in this book.
The narration was another thing that did not capture me. Who ever was Riley's voice did a great job irritating me.
It has/had potential...
