Good but I liked the first one better
That’s probably because of the characters, I really love the protagonist in the first one and maybe because he was “new” to the setting there was more room for comedy and less plot but the writing style of the first book is what I truly loved. The humor. This book is good too but it doesn’t stand out to me, like the first one did

Good Story, under-developed romantic subplot
The main character is very interesting and for such a short story well developed.
The plot ties in with the first book and is therefore complex enough and suspensful.
Story pace and developement, character developement are good, the worldbuilding is not too elaborate but on the stong side. The town already feels familar and a bit like home after only zwo stories, however I wish we would learn even more about them.
The romantic storyline however is completely under-developed and feels a bit unnecessary. I dont understand why the main character and his love interest needed to discover that they are mates in this book, why couldn’t they just be interested, get to know each other, maybe have sex and a crush and fall in love in the next one. Or give the love interest something to do besindes wait at home and make him an actual central part of the story. The guy is half plant-witch half succubus, you'd think there might be a use for him besides waiting and fixing some runes and we learn absolutely nothing about him. Why write a romance a all if you dont want to describe at least 2 charakters? This way the whole storyline felt like an unnecessary subplot.
Overall still a good and enjoyable read.
