And it must be extremely difficult to write crime fiction and at the same time do the victims of all the laundries and mother-and-baby-homes justice. When I realised what the plot is, I was like... wow, that could go either way now. Let's see.
And I must admit I have rarely been more disturbed by a book. Jo Spain doesn't feed on brutality or oberdramatozed emotional horrors, this would turn the reader off.
She gives you all the details, all the sides. And she leaves space for your own conclusions. Which in my case means:
Yes, killer, I agree with you. I might have done the same.
Absolutely stunning.
