    Inhaltsangabe

The hero of Will Save the Galaxy for Cash returns to do what he does best. Which is - what again, exactly?

With the age of heroic star pilots and galactic villains completely killed by quantum teleportation, the ex-star pilot currently named Dashford Pierce is struggling to find his identity in a changing universe.

Then, a face from his past returns and makes him an offer he can't refuse: take part in just one teeny weeny, slightly illegal, daring heist, and not only will he have the means to start the new life he craves, but also save his childhood hero from certain death.

How hard could that be? If you need to ask - you don’t know Dashford Pierce.

Before long, Pierce is surrounded by peril, and forced to partner with the very same supervillains he'd spent his heroic career thwarting. But when he's confronted by the uncomfortable truth that star pilots might not have been the force for good they had intended to be, he begins to wonder if the villains hadn't had the right idea all along....

    "Nah, I'm fine"

His best book so far, a rollercoaster ride of a story and one of the most hilarious villains I know.

Plothole? or did I just miss it?

I'm not sure, but I do not think there ever is an explanation, as to why the group was hired for the heist. The explanation that is given in the beginning, makes no sense at the end of the book.

Otherwise, I love listening to Yahtzee Croshaw, the paste of the story is fast and easy to follow (besides my irritation at the end).

Writing funny as ever, but the setup kills it

The writing is up there with Differently Morphous, but the setup for the story is just stupid. It's an idiot plot. I won't be able to criticize further without spoilers.

The premise is that our protagonist disguises himself to get a hold of the McGuffin in a heist.
The problem is: the person who has the McGuffin idolizes the protagonist as a classic hero figure who goes on adventures, saves the innocent and defeats the bad guys. And the McGuffin is genuinely needed to save someone's life and prevent the outbreak of a deadly plague. Yet the plan is to STEAL the McGuffin in an elaborate heist, even though the way the situation is presented he could literally just walk in there, ask for it and walk out with it. 5 minutes, done. Does the book acknowledge that at a later point? I wouldn't know. I gave up after 2 hours of listening to the main characters - including the supposedly intelligent, competent straight(wo)man - ignoring the blindingly obvious solution to their problems.

    A dashing growing up story

Dashford Piers is again mistaken for the most hated and most beloved Starpilot of them all. He starts out denouncing to be a starpilot but whilst his actions betray his sentiment at first he soon grows out of being a hero all together.
This book is a parody of both the idea of the wild west and space fiction. Acknowledging that most heroes of said genres just want to play where there are no rules.
He comes to a strong conclusion to his sublty executed but also wide character arc, which makes this book the growing up story of a 30odd year old manchild.

Exactly Yaazees style with enough silliness to make the graver themes fun and entertaining.

    Fantastic!

What an outstanding good work of the beloved critic and knobgobbler yahtzee.
His person reading the story also adds a really lovely and lively touch to all his characters.
