Montgomery is keenly observant and curious. She calls her chickens “the ladies,” and she recognizes each hen’s individual call and personality. As a prospective keeper of chickens, I readily bought this book, expecting insights into the mind of the chicken, and interesting perspectives on the practice of keeping chickens. What I got, was a short, whimsical tale of a flock of free-roaming chickens slowly getting picked off by wildlife, whose cockerels were quite the handful. That's it. There really isn't any practical, useful information here at all, so any prospective listeners should bear that in mind before parting with their money.
