One basic need all children have, educator Alfie Kohn argues, is to be loved unconditionally, to know that they will be accepted even if they screw up or fall short. Yet conventional approaches to parenting such as punishments (including "time outs"), rewards (including positive reinforcement), and other forms of control teach children that they are loved only when they please us or impress us. Kohn cites a body of powerful and largely unknown research detailing the damage caused by leading children to believe they must earn our approval. Perfekt für meine Kindererziehung zum Einbringen und Verstehen was in Kindern vorgeht falls sie mal anders reagieren als man selbst gerade nachvollziehen kann.

Die ersten Kapitel erläutern ausgiebig, warum Belohnungen, Strafen und das Zurückhalten von Liebe und Fürsorge in der Kindererziehung unvorteilhaft und schädlich sind. Es werden Studien und Nachweise zitiert als Beleg dafür.
Alfie Kohn erzählt auf mitunter humorvolle Weise, was für eine gute Eltern-Kind Beziehung und eine umfassend positive Entwicklung wichtig ist, gibt konkrete Tipps zu Verhalten und Formulierung ohne eine generelle Patentlösung vorzugaukeln.
Gelesen ist das Buch sehr gut. Es werden Zitat Anfang und Ende mitgelesen, sodass man gut folgen kann (nicht etwa wie in Siblings without rivalry, bei dem man oft nicht weiß, wer gerade spricht). Kohns Stimme finde ich sehr angenehm, das Lesetempo optimal.
Ich habe das Buch oft weiter empfohlen. Es wird auch von Coaches im Bereich Gentle Parenting sehr gerne empfohlen.

In our society, the fear of "spoiling" a kid is widely spread. Consequences are supposed to be a very effectiv means to prevent getting a tyrant. Praising is important to motivate kids.
This is all so wrong and a lot of people don't know this...

Every parent should read this book.
