Zwischen Unverständnis, Wut und mitunter Mitleid schwankt die Bandbreite. An manch einer Stelle mag man die Akteure an den Schultern fassen und kräftig schütteln. Insgesamt manifestiert sich unweigerlich die Erkenntnis, dass zwei Kulturen aufeinanderprallen, die unterschiedlicher nicht sein könnten. Bei der Integration in die westliche Wertewelt bleibt es für den Großteil der beschriebenen Familien bei einem missglückten Versuch. Zu stark scheinen die Figuren in ihren traditionellen Denkmustern gefangen. Die Implikation auf die Zukunft der Asylpolitik bleibt dem Leser selbst überlassen.
