Composed in four parts between 1883 and 1885, Thus Spoke Zarathustra is the most famous and influential work of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. The work is a philosophical novel in which the character of Zarathustra, a religious prophet-like figure, delivers a series of lessons and sermons in a Biblical style that articulate the central ideas of Nietzsche's mature thought. Der Sprecher spricht gut, aber ich finde es sehr unangenehm und ermuedend, der Uebersetzung zuzuhoeren. Denn Nietzsches klares Deutsch wurde von Thomas Common in ein Englisch uebersetzt, das dem Elizabethan/Shakespearean und dem Englisch der King James Version der Bibel aehnelt. Die Dialoge klingen deshalb recht umstaendlich und reduzieren so die Verstaendlichkeit des Textes. Ein weiteres Problem: die Hoerprobe gibt keine Kostprobe von Nietzsches Meisterwerk, sondern nur von einem Vorwort von Nietzsche Schwester, allerdings in normalem, zeitgenoessischen Englisch. Der Hoerer und Kaeufer hat deshalb einen voellig falschen Eindruck von 95% des Hoerbuchs. - Empfehlung: benutze zeitgenoessisches Englisch, wie z.B. in Graham Parkes' Uebersetzung (Oxford World's Classics, 2005).
