The bitter truth
Is that fake news and alternate facts have been in use by governments and parties for a long time, even more so with totalitarian and fascist regimes. The Holodomor is one of the biggest crimes of the past where society also in democratic countries chose to look away... John Sweeney creates a colorful - or more accurately a drab picture of how the experience of Gareth Jones in the Soviet Union in the 1930ies could have been. The book also gives a voice to the victims of the Holodomor, which still need to get more recognition. It also shines a light on how the way the west dealt with Putin up until February 2022, looking away when the Kremlin killed journalists and opposition figures, influenced western parties and media.
