Danny is only five years old, but in the words of old Mr Hallorann he is a 'shiner', aglow with psychic voltage. When his father becomes caretaker of the Overlook Hotel, Danny's visions grow out of control.

As winter closes in and blizzards cut them off, the hotel seems to develop a life of its own. It is meant to be empty. So who is the lady in Room 217 and who are the masked guests going up and down in the elevator? And why do the hedges shaped like animals seem so alive?

Somewhere, somehow, there is an evil force in the hotel - and that, too, is beginning to shine . . .

Obviously a masterpiece, probably the best supernatural novel in a hundred years
As a storyteller, he is up there in the Dickens class

... als der Film.
Nach dem Film hatte ich keine Angst nachts auf die Toilette zu gehen, besonders dann wenn der Vprhang zur Dusche zugezogen war.
DAS schafft nur Herr King mit seinen Büchern.
Absolut empfehlenswert.

Ganz anders und viel besser

Capturing read, even if listened to fragmented,
It’s a true classic, better than the movie ;-)

Gripping classic, a book to enjoy more than once

The movie is what it is, not bad but in no way is “The Shining” as the book portrays. So much is lost or not even touched upon, making the movie empty.

There’s so much more depth to all of the characters, including the hotel itself.

Excellent read and listen. Until next time!

Need a series out of this
