I prefered the first book. Of course this is meckern auf hohem Niveau. I feel like the main character never really seems to change. Why do the other characters always have to hide some important info from him, so that we as listeners can be surprised by the twist? The happy where Rawl finally does escape the pod seems rushed and half hearted. So they discover the magic powers that can make anything teleport? Would be nice to know how much preperation went into coordinating the group magic, judged by earlier passages. I just don't like 1. being pedo avoided pheew ... by means of 2. relativistic time travel and 3. the core still ain't dead
What I like is space catholics, that zero-g sex scene ooh yeah and A. Bettic stoic blue boy. But the story drags and drags maybe I just don't like the travel journey genre. But big W for creativity. Dan Simmons haut mal wieder einen raus. Ähh, when was it published again??
Voice actor was good but too fast. Reads voices in different tones but mixes up some.

Ich mag diese großen Geschichten, die Zeit und Raum und Kulturen darin beschreiben, etwas Technik, und ganz viel Leben. Der Sprecher hat jeder Person individuellen Ausdruck gegeben. Werde mir das Buch auch noch gedruckt kaufen, um immer wieder nachschlagen zu können, es wird einen festen Platz in meiner Bibliothek einnehmen.

These were probably the best 60 hours I've spent listening to a great performing narrator reading the most loved book of my early twenties. I was a bit afraid the audiobook couldn't keep up with the narration I had in my head but it was even better.

An absolute masterpiece! For me the first two books of this series were good but did not live up to the hype or rather reputation. But the Endymion book convinced me otherwise. Many things that happen within the book are left in unexplained until everything is illuminated at the end. It fits together increadibly well, as if the author has fabricated the entire plot of the series as he wrote the first book. It also presented the most beautiful love story that I had the privilege to read. It left me in tears during and at the end of my reading. This book will always have a special place in my heart.

some readers don't feel there had been a need for any further exploration of Simmons worlds beyond the 2 Hyperion books, but to neglect Endymion is to deprive oneself of Aeneas quite real and in reality most relevant message. I am very thankful to Dan Simmons to remind anyone who will listen of the existence of the protagonists somewhere in the multiverse

Halten Sie die Hörbuch-Ausgabe von The Rise of Endymion für besser als das Buch?

Ich habe nur das Hörbuch gehört, habe also keinen Vergleich.
Bei Audible hat mich die unterschiedliche Unterteilung der Bücher irritiert:
Deutsch: Hyperion + Endymion 1-8
Englisch: 4 Bücher: Hyperion, Fall of Hyperion, Endymion, Rise of Endymion;
auf Englisch also "zum halben Preis", wobei die technischen Beschreibungen manchmal in Fremdsprache anspruchsvoll sind...

Welcher Moment von The Rise of Endymion ist Ihnen besonders im Gedächtnis geblieben?

Szenen im Tempel "Hanging in Air" und auf der Ringwelt und im Vatikan.

Hätten Sie das Hörbuch am liebsten in einem Rutsch durchgehört?

Die Geschichte hat zwaar manchmal seine Längen. Rückblenden und Erinnerungen helfen, wenn man "nicht in einem Rutsch" liest / hört.
Durchhalten bei den Längen lohnt aber immer.

Was wäre für andere Hörer sonst noch hilfreich zu wissen, um das Hörbuch richtig einschätzen zu können?

Dan Simmons entwirft ein faszinierendes Universum epischer Breite mit vielen Facetten, die sich alle stimmig in einander fügen.
Technische Geräte und physikalische Wirkungsweisen werden meist im ersten Schritt aus der Benutzersicht erklärt, mit der Zeit dann verständlich in Zusammenhänge gebracht.

Viele fantastische Einfälle füllen ein riesiges Spektrum an Welten, Rassen, Personen und Schicksalen. Dan Dimmons beschreibt sehr eindrucksvoll und plastisch. In manchen Kampfszenen ist das aber auch z.T. nichts für zart besaitete Gemüter.
Das Ende ist famos. Meine erste Reaktion war "die Geschichte hör' ich mir gleich nocheinmal an..."

Welch ein Finale - Nach dem ersten Teil ein Muss!

Truely a marvel of sci fi! It boggles the mind and massages your brain in a delightful and satisfactory way. The conclusion to this four book series is both rewarding and exciting.
