Über diesen Titel
I killed the men who butchered my parents and dodged the hangman’s noose—now I’m an outlaw bound by honor, drawn to the one man who wants nothing to do with me.
After years of drifting and hiding my secrets, I sense a chance of redemption at Isaiah Ranch. I’ve known family and honor—can I find it again here?
Ambrose Isaiah, the youngest heir of a powerful ranching dynasty, sees me as a threat—a killer with no place among his kin. He’s right, but that doesn’t stop the spark between us.
I didn’t come here to stay. I didn’t come here to fall in love. I’m everything Ambrose should despise. But away from prying eyes, with only the wilderness as witness, we cross a line neither of us can take back.
Our secret heats up fast—but so does the danger. A violent gang is closing in with the ranch in their sights. When betrayal hits close to home, we have to fight… even if it means losing everything.
The land, the truth…and each other.
What truly surprised me, though, was realizing in chapter one that this is a historical romance set around 1860. I had absolutely no idea going in—and I loved that discovery. 😊
Romeo Alexander’s storytelling and writing style are quite different from what I usually read, but that’s exactly what made it so enjoyable. Whether it was the author’s voice or simply the fact that the story unfolds in a different era, it worked beautifully. The atmosphere was incredibly vivid: the dry desert, the dust, the relentless heat, and the harsh realities of ranch life all felt tangible and immersive. I was invested from the very beginning.
Ambrose and Samuel are complete opposites, yet both instantly likable. Samuel, in particular, completely stole the show for me—his wit, charm, quick mouth, and sharp sarcasm were such a breath of fresh air. Watching their relationship evolve was fascinating, especially with the added tension of how society at the time would react to them. Even though it’s fiction, their journey felt deeply satisfying.
The pacing was a bit slow in places, but it never lost me. If anything, it allowed the story to breathe. Toward the end, things really picked up and became quite thrilling. The epilogue wrapped everything up nicely while also tying in the two characters from book one of the series.
I also have to mention the women in this story—Lizzie and Hipólita. Both are strong, compelling side characters who added so much depth and richness to the narrative. They truly elevated the story.
Full admission: I started with this book even though it’s technically book four (obviously the last book in the series). That said, it works perfectly well as a standalone—and now I’m absolutely planning to go back and start with book one and finish the series.
I listened to the audiobook while reading along, and the narration by Michael Dean was outstanding. His accents added a strong sense of authenticity to the experience. At times, I did struggle a bit to distinguish between characters or POVs during dialogue since his voice timbre didn’t change much, but overall the narration was excellent.
