The definitive guide to working with -- and surviving -- bullies, creeps, jerks, tyrants, tormentors, despots, backstabbers, egomaniacs, and all the other assholes who do their best to destroy you at work.

"What an asshole!"

How many times have you said that about someone at work? You're not alone! In this groundbreaking book, Stanford University professor Robert I. Sutton builds on his acclaimed Harvard Business Review article to show you the best ways to deal with assholes...and why they can be so destructive to your company. Practical, compassionate, and in places downright funny, this guide offers:
  • Strategies on how to pinpoint and eliminate negative influences for good
  • Illuminating case histories from major organizations
  • A self-diagnostic test and a program to identify and keep your own "inner jerk" from coming out
The No Asshole Rule is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and Business Week bestseller.

I think, I’ll remember the rule about feet first through ravines. Yet, I also felt that there was something strangely in conciliatory and hostile self-righteousness in attack on assholes. Maybe it’s a cheap punch, but his critique seemed a bit a-hole-like. As a psychologist he must know of the fundamental attribution-fallacy. He didn’t exactly do much in preventing us from overcoming that fallacy, though he did point out, that we ourselves can be the a-hole.

Interesting rule

While reading, it was surprising how some individuals I unfortunately had to interact along my career fits perfectly the researching results explained in this book. By experience I can only agree 100% on the huge damage a single asshole can cause to a whole team and a company when they are not properly identified and managed. Specially leadership teams should be at least pretty aware of this rule.

A must for any team member regardless of the role

A bunch of scientifically unsubstantiated claims. Alot of meaningless anecdotes don't make the point that you shouldn't be or employ assholes... Interestingly, the book is missing all the anecdotes to the contrary about very successful assholes. One of them just became the US President. It's more of a self help book for people who need to hear that they are great and will do great if only they manage not be or employ assholes.

Great title. Otherwise pointless.
