while i love the story, there is one issue i have with the audiobook. The reader does not use a wide enough range of voices. many of the navy man sound alike.

Amzing the plot, the fantasy, I loved it. As with most science fiction one can disagree with some details but it does not spoil the story. I hope there is coming a sequel.

Book:
Most books are an expression of the times in which they where created.
This is very much the case in The Mote in God's Eye, which was published in 1974.
Though some ideas might have been somewhat new and even thought provoking at the time, today's readers (2014) will find the depicted society terribly outdated.
One could argue, that this might be deliberate, but I believe it is merely a lack of vision.

The caracters are 2 dimensional and resemble stereotypes of the 1960.
Cardboard cutouts, all of them. The Russian Admiral, The Brave Aristocrate, The Sientist, The Female Heroine, The Scottsman..

Narator:
LJ Ganser reads the book like an American sports commentator from the 50s. One could have brought some depth into the text and maybe even some life into the characters, but all we get is a "thrilling adventure" in a yankee twang.

Personally I was quite disapointed.
