absolute dirt
It feels as if this story was written by another author than the 1st one.
This is the perfect example of a story where things happen because the author wants to reach a certain goal instead of a natural, logical flow.
The protagonist is infuriatingly passive all she ever does throughout the whole book is wonder around and wallow in self pity and fear, everything just happens to her with little to zero input on her end.
The story makes no sense, nearly every conversation feels wrong, ppl acting or not acting in certain ways feels forced and the ending is one of the worst "fate tore us apart"-clichés I have ever seen.
It makes absolutely no sense that the male lead feels more obligated towards the sailors than to the protagonist, also the comparison he draws between her and his situation is absolutely wrong, his home has a mostly competent leader and isn't dying off while she is magically bound to the land and is probably the only person who has a chance to heal it, his argumentation in the end boils down to "If you have more power than me then I can't live with you." Wich makes him a despicable person who never really loved her.
