After the children of time series my expectations for this series were huge but i was _not_ disappointed. This is another great story on the surface with so much more to discover below. Beautifully written and read. I highly recommend giving it a go!

Like the two books before this story has great characters. Maniye Manytracks, Hspric, Asmander, Loud Thunder, they all have a crucial part to play facing a terrifying threat from across the seas. I havn't read the shadows of the apt series but people have told me thre might be crossover implications which I therefore didn't catch. While still a great action packed primeordeal story it has some science-fiction weirdness which distracted me a little. Maybe I should read the shadows of the apt series to get a better picture of the overarcing background? Final verdict: the weakest title of the series so far but still great.
