The Bible itself is a great disappointment. Especially the Old Testament. Came into the process wanting to find inspiration or meaning but left me just more confused and let down by the groundwork of the religion. A significantly abridged version would be able to carry all the meanings needed and avoid all the naming of people and places, family trees, places, etc. just boring out of every proportion.
But this is a subjective viewpoint. I firmly believe every Christian needs to read it, at least to know it, and its intricacies.
