Amongst the vats of banana jam and heaps of peppercorns in their grandmother’s factory, they try to craft a childhood for themselves amidst what constitutes their family – their lonely, lovely mother, their beloved Uncle Chacko (pickle baron, radical Marxist and bottom-pincher) and their avowed enemy Baby Kochamma (ex-nun and incumbent grand-aunt).

Such a great book. I wish the reader took time to familiarise herself with the pronunciation of the names (at least the main characters) and the few Malayalam- dialogues. Throughout the book the main characters names are annoyingly wrongly pronounced. The book itself amazing. Such a wonderful writing style. Such a gripping story.

sorry, but found myself drifting away all the time. the voice didn't capture me into the story. so I kept missing parts of the story. result was that I couldn't follow the story. kept going back. but sorry.
