Annoyed me to no end.
Sorry, the astounding amount of repeated words in neighbouring sentences and storylines (multicoloured, prismatic, multi-hued, polychromatic...) makes it seen like reading a book of synonyms with a strong case of the hiccups. Everything repeats: adjectives, full names (I can't even describe my detest for that bloody moon), "the vu trin soldier said", "Oh, ancient one!!", wyvvernfire, "in my affinity lines!!1!").
The names for everyone's 'race' are repeated ad absurdum as well (among the endless vu trin sorceresses, Alfsigr Elves, Zhilon’ile, primordial Death Fae, the 'Smaragdalfar' sounds especially like the narrator was sick of saying it themselves) and I cannot get over the maddening fake soviet accent for the Urisk: "ve sink...".
The grating vocal fry for all the male characters, coupled with the most second-hand shame inducing, campy & endless descriptions of characters kissing & coupling under that abominable moon, makes this audiobook so extremely bad I had started to say the worst offenders of repetition out loud and by chaper 15 couldn't take it anymore. Laurie Forest had already lost the plot by the 4th book in the series and this is just so, so bad. Where were the editors/how drugged were they?? I bet their affinity lines sparkle in prismatic light ✨.

boring and repetitive
hard not to drop it. weak storyline, too many characters and way too many adjectives to make the book longer

Tolle Sprecherin, schwache langatmige Storyline
Julia Wheelan hat wirklich versucht alles aus dem Buch rauszuholen und die dutzenden verschiedene Charaktere wundervoll gesprochen!
Aber selbst mit der tollen Stimme überdeckt es nicht die langweilige Geschichte.
Leider war das letzte Buch der 5 sehr langatmig, zu viele Charaktere und POV‘s mit immer wieder der gleichen Geschichte wurden genannt, so dass ich diese irgendwann gar nicht mehr auseinander halten konnte.
Zugegeben, ich habe zwischenzeitlich auch nicht mehr wirklich gebannt zugehört, wie ich es bei großartigen und spannenden Teilen 1-3 tat.
In Dryad Storm wurde Ellorens Geschichte nur sehr oberflächlich zu Ende gebracht und ihre ganze Charakterwandlung der letzten 4 Bücher auf eine langweilige, zweidimensionale Person reduziert.
Und das große Versprechen „Elloren sei die nächste große Magierin“ wurde auch nicht eingehalten - ich frage mich, warum die Buchreihe überhaupt noch Black Witch heißt.
*Achtung Spoiler*
Auch war der letzte Kampf zwischen Vogel und Elloren am Ende so unspektakulär, dass ich während diesem nicht einmal mitbekam, als dieser starb. Als ich mich später im Buch wunderte, dass Vogel nicht mehr auftauchte, habe ich das Kapitel noch einmal angehört und selbst beim zweiten Male konnte ich nur sehr schwer zwischen den Zeilen lesen, dass dieser nun scheinbar von Elloren getötet und nicht nur verletzt war bzw. nicht wieder kehrte. Nach dem Kampf war die Spannung aus meiner Sicht dann ganz weg und der Rest des Buches noch langatmiger als der Anfang.
Im Epilog wurde dann plötzlich auf eine ganz neue Person eingegangen, die man davor gar nicht kannte, auch das hätte man sich sparen können.
Ich hätte viel lieber mehr über Elloren selbst oder Elloren‘s Tochter erfahren oder wie es mit spannenden früheren Charakteren wie Wynter oder Valasca weiterging.
Was ich gut finde war jedoch die Message hinter allem.
Trotzdem schade, dass eine wirklich großartige Buchreihe so ein langweiliges Ende bekam.

Botschaft der Geschichte könnte nicht aktueller sein
Spannende Geschichte, die durch die gehäufte Schilderungen von Sex etwas langatmig ist. Ellerons wiederkehrende Hilflosigkeit war etwas entnervend.

Gelungene Story

Großartiger Abschluss
Ein großartiger Abschluss der Black Witch Serie, die Geschichte war fesselnd bis zur letzten Seite.
Und eine wunderschöne hoffnungsvolle Metapher für unsere Realität.

could not finish
Disapponted that I cant return the audiobook because I didnt pay with Audible Credit. Despite that I couldnt bring myself to finish it. There are just way to many POVs that I dont care about. I had to listen to several chapters multiple times because I zoned out. I'm really disapponted because I really loved the previous books, but what can you do.. If youre on the fence about reading this book Id recommend you not to.

Emotional junk food - and not the good kind
I was fully aware that I wouldn’t be reading a sophisticated novel, it was something for casual listening but it turned out to be so bad - I had to cancel.
First of all - if you made it into a drinking game how often the author uses “emphatic” or “triangular features” you’d be admitted to hospital after the first chapter. Is it to much to ask to use thesaurus for a synonym once in a while?!
Secondly, about halfway through the book it seemed like the author just copy-pasted chapters, threw in a couple of new names but the story is the same over and over. Strong, emotional wording yet one-dimensional/superficial.
Thirdly, I mean, not every book has to be a high quality read. Sometimes it‘s great to relax your brain cells a little. However, there is a difference between relaxing and just killing your brain cells ;) does every new storyline HAVE to be a „star-crossed love at first sight against all odds“? That trope has been overused before this book and it doesn’t need like a dozen storylines within this book to do CPR to this myth.
And…all right, we understand that almost everyone is against the Black Witch. Move on, we don’t need the sixth storyline to make that point in detail.
At one point I just rolled my eyes so hard at the story, it added to the pain of listening to the always on edge speaker hasting her way with overly emphasizing the already overly emotion-throbbing story.
