In May 1996, three expeditions attempted to climb Mount Everest on the Southeast Ridge route pioneered by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953. Crowded conditions slowed their progress. Late in the day twenty-three men and women—including expedition leaders Scott Fischer and Rob Hall—were caught in a ferocious blizzard. Disoriented and out of oxygen, climbers struggled to find their way down the mountain as darkness approached. Alone and climbing blind, Anatoli Boukreev brought climbers back from the edge of certain death.

The book recounts the tragic events that unfolded 1996 on mount Everest from the perspective of Boukriev and DeWalt.
As a non-mountaineer, I found this audiobook very informative and beautifully told. The narrator is great. The audio is clear and a pleasure to listen to. The style is fact oriented and interspaces with interviews from the two mountaineers.
I highly recommend it, to anyone interested in adventure, mountaineering or the battle between Man and Nature.

I just downloaded this because I didn't know what else to download. I'm not particularly interested in the subject.
turns out, I REALLY enjoyed it. Good voices and interesting insight into a world that is utterly unknown to me.
