The author's favorite word/phrase followed by "to and fro", calling heroin "junk" and the McGuffin of this book "shard" every single time.

I liked "Stolen Tongues" because I followed the original story on Reddit live when it came out. This book on the other hand is lacking the first-person narrative that made Book 1 so interesting. The focus is too much on heavy-handed social criticism instead of a compelling story.
The characters are either boring or annoying, despite Gary Tiedemann's best efforts. Who also could benefit from forgoing the modern trend of "whisper shouting" rather than really yelling when the story demands it and balancing the audio levels.
