    Inhaltsangabe

This is the story of how your life shapes your brain and how your brain shapes your life. Locked in the silence and darkness of your skull, the brain fashions the rich narratives of your reality and your identity.

Join renowned neuroscientist David Eagleman for a journey into the questions at the heart of our existence. What is reality? Who are 'you'? How do you make decisions? Why does your brain need other people? How is technology poised to change what it means to be human?

In the course of his investigations, Eagleman guides us through the world of extreme sports, criminal justice, facial expressions, genocide, brain surgery, gut feelings, robotics, and the search for immortality.

Strap in for a whistle-stop tour into the inner cosmos. In the infinitely dense tangle of billions of brain cells and their trillions of connections, something emerges that you might not have expected to see in there: you.

    Very interesting and well presented

I study physics, and I have some level of experience with neural networks and neuromorphic computing, and I have always been curious about the brain. The book presents the information in very interesting ways, and with my knowledge background, it really put me through a journey of the brain. Very interesting concepts. Not a technical book, but it's more like a presentation of scientifical results described with philosophical question and interpretation. Recommended!

Absoluty fascinating, easy to listen to and follow

I absolutely loved it, and will search audible now for similar titles but am already afraid that I won’t find another book that’s as good as this.
Totally recommend. You don’t need any pre-existing neuroscienticific knowledge to enjoy this book.

    Food for thought

I like how David Eagleman explains complex experiments or theories in order for the simple person with no particular knowledge of neuroscience to understand them. I love the passion emerging from his voice! Looking forward to listen to the rest of his books. We humans are fascinating creatures.

    The end needs an update

Time flies quickly in neuroscience. We have already better theories about consciousness that do not rely on emergent properties. Graziano proposed a theory where consciousness is but our brain's model of itself. I liked the first half, though.
