A brilliant story with great descriptions that makes you feel as though you were part of the story. Insights into the complex state of Sylvia Plath’s mind made even more chilling by the fact that Plath passed from suicide only a month after the first UK publication.

The only audio book that the performer actually improves the book. She does not act the protagonist, she is her. Just amazing.

Better than the book itself

I enjoyed the audiobook very much. The last chapter, the biographical note, was especially interesting. The piano interlude between the chapters was a good idea, but way too loud. The audio mix should have been way subtler on that one, as it repeatedly wrested me out of bed as I was listening to the book to fall asleep to.

I liked the voice and the depth of the book itself. the story is dramatic and real, it hurts to hear the pain of living with depression

It felt like I lived it myself. The description took me into the world of this girl. Also the voice of Maggie Gyllenhaal made it surreal. Although it was an interesting experience this book is not one which will leave you feel happy afterwards.

In brilliant descriptions Sylvia Plath is sharing her mental development and illness as well as her views on people and the world of her time, a world that has only changed in some respects, making many of her observations as relevant today as they were then.

Sylvia Plath is an amazing author and this classic is one that has to be read! I stumbled upon this because of my english major and read the book in university, but what really blew me away this time is Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s performance! She does not read, she acts with so much emotion and talent i would definitely recommend listening to THIS version! (:

Phenomenal

Maggie Gyllenhall did a perfect performance acting this book.
The story is pretty fast paced wich makes it difficult to follow the plot at times. I cannot recommend to listen to this while doing other things since you will get lost in the plot that way and it’s hard to catch up.
However, I liked the story
