Avis de la critique

"Eugenides' voice is so fresh and compelling, his powers of observation so startling and acute, that most will be mesmerized....This is an auspicious debut from an imaginative and talented writer." ( Publishers Weekly)
"A finely crafted work of literary if slightly macabre imagination....A black, glittering novel that won't be to everyone's taste but must be tried by readers looking for something different." ( Library Journal)
"Mr. Eugenides is blessed with the storyteller's most magical gift, the ability to transform the mundane into the extraordinary." ( The New York Times Book Review)

Eugenides is a master of language, psychology and narrative style. It was an extraordinary pleasure to listen to this audiobook - even though it is sad, a true classical tragedy transferred to modern times.

Great novel, excellently read

Was treibt Menschen in den Selbstmord?

The first novel by one of my favorite authors. The topic is somewhat macabre, but it also presents a coming-of-age story of adolescent boys and girls in early 70s Midwest.

Wonderful

The narration was well done and was perfect for this story. The story itself was strange, beautiful, and heartbreaking.

I really enjoyed hearing this audiobook, I feel like everything was just perfect:

This story about five young girls (between 13 and 17) that happen to kill themselves in the passing of just one year is so haunting, mysterious, depressing, but most of all: It's excellently told. And with this I'm addressing both the author and the narrator.

I recommend this audiobook for everyone.

What a wonderful and haunting story!
