Gosh, I am so glad I discovered this series now with 3 books already being published and also available as audio books! Otherwise I would have had no clue how to survive the waiting time for book 4!
For the third time an attractive woman finds refuge at Jules'dilapidated farmhouse in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Theo,Hugh and Otto brace themselves for new dangers. I secretly dubted the 3 K9 Officers the brooding grouch, the dare-devil jokester and the gentle DrDoolittle giant. Alice/Sarah escaped from her criminal mastermind brother in Texas, thanks to the help of Mr.E (although he clearly belongs to the shady-bad guys, I had really been worried about him during this risky mission). Small, scared Sarah pushes all of Otto's buttons and he tries everything to keep her safe. But Sarah's brother and her fiance are determined to fuse their two crime families. With winter starting and Monroe deserted by 2/3 of its inhabitants they move in big time taking the whole village hostage to get Sarah back.

Katie Ruggle has done it again and delivered a story so much filled with suspense and fast paced action that the tender romance between Otto and Sarah almost gets lost between all the explosions and chases. I love how distinct and vivid each of her MC s are. Otto and Sarah both being quiet, animal lovers, commited to their friends and so brave! Although I wondered if two persons being so obviously shy, could fall in love so quickly. When Sarah's brother finds her hiding place early in the story and gets arrested, and all 3 women finally reveal their stories I thought it would go smooth and easy now. Boy, was I wrong! The action hadn't even started yet.

They ought to put out a warning to innocent audio book listeners for this episode. Callie Beaulier reads this action-packed story with so much emphasis and energy, that your heart thumps as hard as Sarah's during her hide and run inside the old house! You can almost hear the floorboards creak. Or hear the winterwind howl on Sarah's silent track with all of Otto's animals down the snowy pass. I barely „survive“ the story, breathlessly and white-knuckeled! What a phantastic narration!!! Thank you very much dear Callie Beaulier for 11 hours of stunning listening entertainment!

What a breath stealing action story !

This is my least favorite book in the series so far because it's too much geared towards wrapping Grace's and Sarah's story - with a BANG.

Yet I could suspend my disbelief if I liked Alice a bit more. Even though she likes animals and is an instant bad-ass, she gets on my nerves with her rolling-with-the-punches character. She's too nice for my liking.

Further to that, Otto is way too oafish in this installment. The whole "me likee Sarah" bumble and his vocal ineptitude make him seem like a bit of a village idiot. He used to be taciturn but funny. A sense of irony and a caring personality showed him to be a perfect addition to Theo and Hugh. Now, he's just ... gigantic, heroic, and smitten - without what made him Otto in the previous parts of the series.

Bottom line: Action-packed third part of a great series. BUT with King Kong and Ann Darrow as MCs.
