After using her powers at a party she didn’t want to be at in the first place, fourteen-year-old Violet Parr is grounded... indefinitely. She’s always lived by two rules: hide her Super-ness and blend in. Some of that is from Mr. and Mrs. Parr’s strict instructions, sure. Though another, bigger part is Violet feeling unsure how to navigate high school while distancing herself from her embarrassing family. It doesn’t matter; now that she’s broken her family’s code, her parents enlist their licorice-smelling neighbor to babysit Violet and her siblings while they go on a work trip. Ugh.
But when the babysitter turns out to be a mysterious woman named Mirage instead of old Mrs. Caruso, Violet has the sneaking suspicion something’s up. Before long, Mirage claims that her parents have been killed by the National Super Agency, and Violet realizes everything she thought she knew about her life might be a lie. Mirage says there’s only one person who can help protect Violet and her little brothers—Mr. Incredible’s biggest fan and her boss. A guy named Syndrome… And Violet can’t help but wonder if now’s the time to start Super-ing.
