Über diesen Titel

"Shots Fired in Anger" by Lt. Col. John George is a compelling memoir and technical analysis from the front lines of the Burma campaign during World War II. Drawing upon his personal experiences, George provides an insightful narrative that offers a detailed look at the challenges and realities of combat against the Japanese forces. Not merely a collection of war stories, the book stands out for its in-depth evaluation of the small arms and weaponry used in the conflict, blending historical significance with technical expertise. George's account goes beyond the typical war memoir, serving as an invaluable resource for historians, military enthusiasts, and listeners interested in the intricacies of warfare technology and tactics. Through his eyes, listeners gain a vivid understanding of the hardships, strategies, and brotherhood formed in the dense jungles of Burma.

About 3/4 of the book is a great story describing the happenings in the Solomon Islands theatre from the perspective of a rifle enthusiast. Full of anecdotes, opinions on jungle warfare, descriptions of every day life and corpse ridden battlefields etc.

1/4 is a rather detailed review of the various guns used and you need to be quite familiar with the inner workings of guns to enjoy it. If you are not a gun nut it will be less interesting. 1/4 is therefore probably exaggerated, but it felt that way. especially the detailed differences between japanes rifles. While I know what e.g. a sear is, I would still need some graphics to undestand what the exact issue is.

On the other hand, John Riddle could read a phone book and would still provide me with a joyful drive home, so over all, a good book.

Downside: The last word of each chaper was cut off after the first syllable or so.
(Maybe even more than half a word - w/o comparing it to the written book, how would I know.)
