The book is not that great as a stand alone book, it ends abruptly without resolving anything important, but it continues in the second book.
The narrator is competent enough except for two important errors he makes:
1) Whispers are too low, making it necessary to skip back and turn up the volume if you are using headphones instead of big speakers.
2) He very often forgets to hold a pause between sub chapters with scene changes, making it very odd when he is suddenly taking about people not there and at a different time in a different place. His comma pauses are often longer than pauses between sub chapters!
Incomplete but well written book

Und so gemütlich wie es anfängt geht das Buch weiter.
Der Mosaikleger Crispin, in der Provinz lebend, geht nach Sarantium um dort die neugebaute Kathedrale zu schmücken. Auf dem Weg dorthin erlebt er so einiges, lernt viele Menschen kennen und auch in Sarantium angekommen ist sein Weg noch nicht zu Ende....
Würde man mich fragen was eine vollständige Inhaltsangabe wäre, so könnte ich das nicht genau sagen. Das Buch ist voller philosophischer Gedanken und Beschreibungen mystischer Welten. Ich hatte den Eindruck dass der Autor sich letztlich aber nicht festlegen konnte oder wollte. Viele Stränge enden abrupt, Hauptpersonen verschwinden einfach im Nichts, Handlungen werden nicht weitergeführt, oder, fast noch schlimmer, in minutenlangen detaillierten Exkursen breitgetreten - ohne allerdings dabei zur Handlung beizutragen.
Da dieser Band offensichtlich als erster von zweien angelegt wurde mag es nicht verwundern dass er kein richtiges Ende hat. Da aber der zweite wohl noch Handlungsfreier ist verzichte ich auf diesen zweiten Teil.
Der Sprecher ist angenehm, ruhig und vielfältig, kann aber das Buch nicht vor Zerfaserung und Langatmigkeit retten..
Wer gerne weit angelegte Fantasiewelten (im Prinzip an Rom/Athen angelegt) mag, der aber Ein Lied von Eis und Feuer zu brutal und actionlastig fand, der ist hier richtig.
