Great friendship at the beginning. But even though they have been friends for years, they can't communicate and believe that the other person would cheat an them? And then they rush into marriage without having solved their communication and trust issues? That is not going to last!
Instead of the jealousy plotline Blakeney should have made her angry with him for getting her her first job without telling her and handling her live. Their overt power difference would have been a better final conflict. Then she could have learned that there are different kinds of power in a relationship.
