A fascinating subject. And the book contains some very interesting passages. But on the whole it suffers from a whole series of factual errors.
The audio version suffers from a speaker who didn’t make any effort to learn how to pronounce the frequent Italian names correctly and consequently butchered half of them. One would think that some knowledge of Italian pronunciation would be the first thing to expect when recording a book about Rome. Furthermore, stupid mistakes like confusing the Parthenon for the Pantheon and other errors (BC for CE) make listening a rather confusing and annoying experience.
