Über diesen Titel
Richard is an average 15-year-old from the hills of Ohio whose biggest concerns are studying for tests and asking Becky out next Saturday. Everything changes one day when, while lying on the sofa in his parents’ basement, he hears someone whisper, "I am your gift." A moment later, the sofa shoots straight up into the air, passing like a ghost through the house and then soaring into space.
The sofa doesn’t stop until it reaches the moon. There he meets AAL, an artificial life form, who reveals a shocking secret: Richard is the rightful heir to a kingdom spanning the Milky Way galaxy.
With AAL’s help, Richard will travel to the distant planet of Krel, the kingdom’s capital, to claim his throne. Along the way, he will encounter wondrous creatures that he once thought mythical: centaurs, satyrs, pure white pegasuses, and many others.
But powerful forces are already gathering against him, and after centuries without a ruler, many in the kingdom are not ready to accept a boy from a backwater planet as their king. It will take every ounce of strength Richard has, along with help from some unlikely allies, for him to seize his destiny.
©2020, 2022 Michael W. Hickman (P)2024 Ron AllanThere were quite a few times I went back in the audio book when I was confused about some plot elements because I thought I missed a part, but most of the time it was just written strangely.
The author made the protagonist a very unlikeable example of a teenager, he asks superfluous questions, he is easily distracted from life changing important and heavy stuff by things like "Wheeee, I can jump on the moon!", he is always horny and the story delights in pointing it out to the reader/listener, he is quite contrarian (sometimes not entirely without reason I have to say) and the author also throws in some gross behaviour (for humor?).
The other main character for a big part of the story is this artificial intelligence person thing and it's also a really annoying character, mostly in the beginning when he can't or doesn't want to answer questions even though it's obvious it would be the logical and easiest way to calm the protagonists down and get him to cooperate by giving him more information. Instead we get him mysteriously hinting at stuff the protagonist still has to learn but not actually telling him what he has to know.
Then we have all these ppl who are so overjoyed by finding the heir to their kingdom that they could cry, but they expect him to be the perfect clone of their late king, it feels as if the author wants the reader/listener to believe that all these ppl aren't capable of logical thought. One main problem in this situation is that the cultures after 1000 years would be so much different that nobody would expect the heir to the throne to adhere to 1000 year old traditions very strictly and the 2nd main problem is that seemingly nobody takes into account that he didn't grow up with these traditions and wouldn't understand them just by being told what to do.
I don't like the characters
