Ich weiß, dass Hauptcharaktere, vor allem Frauen, häufig viel zu perfekt dargestellt werden. Wir erwarten liebe, hilfsbereite und komplett unschuldige Protagonistinnen. Ich finde es gut, wenn dieses Muster aufgebrochen wird, aber der Hauptperson hier beim Fallen zu zuschauen ist teilweise wirklich sehr anstrengend. Vor allem weil ich finde, dass sich vieler eher flacher Klischees bedient wird (revenge Sex mit dem besten Freund, Drogen, etc). Auch das Ende hat mich nicht wirklich mit der Geschichte versöhnt, aber ich gehe davon aus, dass es das auch nicht unbedingt sollte. Kein „gute Laune“ Buch aber auf jeden Fall intensiv. Julia Whelan ist eine ausgezeichnete Sprecherin.

I really enjoyed the different character-development of this story. They were well written, never falling into cliches.
I had a good time listening to this book, although I think it could have benefitted from a different reading style. The speaker is obviously a very accomplished actress, but the production of what audible sees as “chick-lit” seems to always get the exact same treatment. The book would have maybe benefited from a different tone.

Funny but at times also thoughtful and a critical view of how difficult modern life can be . Characters are well described and come to life. Amusing view of life after a break up.

Yes, she is very annoying, but I think we all are in times of crisis and self-obsessed self-discovery.

Funny and relateable with a very flawed protagonis

The author displays a great ability to build characters and writes them well. They are deep and authentic.
My problem with this book was simply that I found the main character
UNBEARABLE.

It is really hard to stick around if you don’t like the lead, but I managed. The last hour of the book had some redeeming sort of outlook. The way to get there however… wow. So annoying!

That constant stream of consciousness, walking in circles, nay, spirals!
I get it, the main character is going through tough stages of grief and loss. She’s struggling with finding her way back to being a functioning member of society after her unspectacular separation from her husband. But does it really need to take up 95% of the book to describe every recursive, self-centred, oh-so-quirky thought of hers??

Even though Julia Whelan performs in her usual awesome way, her full, lush, luxurious voice and intonation cannot make up for this odyssey. I love listening to her audio books but with this book, there were just too many instances where I wanted to yell: “just shut up already”.

At times, I thought that this book was more intended as a guide for people struggling with divorce. Like it was saying “Hang in there, others are not getting better either”. Not being in this particular situation at the moment, I could hardly take anything away from this audio experience even though I usually enjoy different stories and points of view.

Es hat kein Spaß gemacht und es war auch nicht lehrreich der Protagonistin dabei zuzuhören, wie sie auf sämtlichen Ebenen von Liebe versagt (Ex-Mann, Situationship, Freunde, ...) während sie gleichzeitig sich selbst regelmäßig als Opfer darstellt und in Selbstmitleid ertrinkt.
