A propulsive and uncommonly wise novel about one unexpected wedding guest and the surprising people who help her start anew.

It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself. Meanwhile, the bride has accounted for every detail and every possible disaster the weekend might yield except for, well, Phoebe and Phoebe's plan—which makes it that much more surprising when the two women can’t stop confiding in each other.

In turns absurdly funny and devastatingly tender, Alison Espach’s The Wedding People is ultimately an incredibly nuanced and resonant look at the winding paths we can take to places we never imagined—and the chance encounters it sometimes takes to reroute us.

This is truly a Book that heals you in ways you never expected. But not because there is something out of the ordinary about it, but because it shows the beauty in normal things like feel, live, try. It is a constant reminder that everything is going to be ok and that the true art of life hides behind the unexpected.

So beautiful!

I loved it and I laughed out loud several times and sometimes for minutes. There was a lot more depth in it than I was expecting, but then again, I had expected a RomCom like story (which I don’t usually enjoy) that I only chose because it had been recommended so many times. And it was with it!

Astoundingly hilarious considering it was about suicide in the beginning

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook! Got attached to the characters and didn’t want the story to end… I would have wanted a less abrupt ending but still, overall, it had a bit of everything: the heavy stuff, the lighter way to see life just as it is, the superficial hiding the deeper load. It started dark-ish and then just got lighter with each chapter and it had almost like a therapy effect :) loved it!

Truly loved this

Tolle, unvorhersehbare Geschichte, die sprachlich wirklich toll erzählt ist. Aufregend und emotional, aber dennoch ausgeruht erzählt. Sehr zu empfehlen!

Wundervoll

Great characters, I love that each one had their own faults and quirks. I feel like in this book nothing really happened, but I loved it anyways.

Super fun read
