There are thousends of german sentences in this book. It remains a mystery to me why the reader, who obviously never learned german, could not even be bothered to look up on the internet, how a german ch or a z are pronounced. John Irving has a huge Fanbase in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. All of whom will be rather irritated by that sort of reading.
