When the witch built the 40-flight tower, she made very sure to do the whole thing properly. Each flight contains a dreadful monster, ranging from a diamond-scaled dragon to a pack of slavering goblins. Should a prince battle his way to the top, he will be rewarded with a golden sword - and the lovely Princess Floralinda.

But no prince has managed to conquer the first flight yet, let alone get to the 40th.

In fact, the supply of fresh princes seems to have quite dried up.

This was one of the most fun books I ever listened to! Floralinda is a really cool character, the narrator is making lovely biting remarks, Cobweb is the best fairy and all the amazing creatures and monsters!
Moira Quirk made the most of this story with her masterful performance!

Moira Quirk is one of my ~three most favourite narrators in the world. She's led me (mostly safely) through The Bone Houses and The Drowned Woods, she is the voice of one of the most emotionally damaged, stubborn and impulsive women who ever laid siege to kingdoms, continents and gods.
And most importantly: She will forever be the voice of Tamsyn Muir to me (unless it's actually Tamsyn speaking, I mean, that's kind of her birthright. Right?

This story is absolutely brilliant, it contains all the wit, intelligence, perfidy, intellectual prowess, talent (bolstered by years of hard work, to be sure) and an intimitate and loving knowledge of the English language and all the amazing things it can do. All the things, in short, that I know I will get with every Book that has "Tamsyn Muir" on the front.

I'm usually a quiet reader, not counting the occasional groan or curse. Moiramsyns books in general and Floralinda in particular had me repeatedly giggling and outright laughing througout the book. I had to pause once or thrice because I laughed so hard.

And besides the fun: It's something I would have read and reread with the daughter I never had and it would have taught her so, so many things. About bravery, about facing adversity, about finding your strengths in unexpected places, about the use and abuse of friends and strangers, about what humans need to be human and how to be your own human. Not anyone elses.
And we would have laughed and giggled and learned so very much.

Muir and Quirk were meant to be.
