Über diesen Titel

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen was first published in 1813. The story follows Elizabeth Bennet as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, moral rightness, education and marriage in her aristocratic society of early 19th century England. Elizabeth is the second eldest of five daughters of a country gentleman living in the fictional town of Meryton in Hertfordshire, not far from London. Though the story's setting is uniquely turn of the 19th century, it remains near the top of lists of 'most loved books' and still receives considerable attention from literary critics. To date, the book has sold some 20 million copies worldwide.

The book is good, of course.
But the reader is not. I am sorry, but she pronounces the wrong words in many sentences. And some words she just pronounces wrong in general. I did not like this reading.

Sehr angenehme Sprecherin, die jedem Charakter eine individuelle und passende Stimme verleiht. Und wie toll die Geschichte ist muss man sicher nicht mehr erwähnen ;)

It is no wonder this work has stood the test of time. As a Cishet dude with no connection to the genre I started to listen to this to kill some time and try broaden my horizons. The tought that I would actually enjoy it never crossed my mind.

Now that I have almost finished it I can confidently say, that it is one of the most beautiful books I ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The characters feel alive, the narrative paints a vivid and immersive picture of the period. Never before have I been so invested in a loce story.

The narrator does a incredible job at making the characters feel distinct, imparting well-fitting personality to all of them. Being able to, for example, effortlessly distinguish the Bennett Sisters, just from their individual voices, makes the whole narrative even more engrossing.

Timeless classic brought to life

While I absolutely love the novel itself, I found the narrator of this particular audiobook edition less compelling. Although some listeners praise the narrator, this audiobook is not my cup of tea. For me, this detracted from the immersive experience I had hoped for.

Love the book ... the audio version not so much.
