“Dunmore is my new find in historical romance. Her A League of Extraordinary Women series is extraordinary.”—Julia Quinn, #1 New York Times bestselling author

“This series balances friendship, politics, history, and romance in just the right mix.”—U.S. Representative Katie Porter

Going toe-to-toe with a brooding Scotsman is rather bold for a respectable suffragist, but when he happens to be one's unexpected husband, what else is an unwilling bride to do?

London banking heiress Hattie Greenfield wanted just three things in life:

1. Acclaim as an artist.
2. A noble cause.
3. Marriage to a young lord who puts the gentle in gentleman.

Why then does this Oxford scholar find herself at the altar with the darkly attractive financier Lucian Blackstone, whose murky past and ruthless business practices strike fear in the hearts of Britain's peerage? Trust Hattie to take an invigorating little adventure too far. Now she's stuck with a churlish Scot who just might be the end of her ambitions....

When the daughter of his business rival all but falls into his lap, Lucian sees opportunity. As a self-made man, he has vast wealth but holds little power, and Hattie might be the key to finally setting long-harbored political plans in motion. Driven by an old desire for revenge, he has no room for his new wife's apprehensions or romantic notions, bewitching as he finds her.

But a sudden journey to Scotland paints everything in a different light. Hattie slowly sees the real Lucian and realizes she could win everything—as long as she is prepared to lose her heart.

Having started out with regency romance, I grew to like books set in victorian times much more. The Women are (outwardly) tougher and more progressiv. The men are more varied. No (or less) rapy scenes.
This series tries to show live of very progressive women, who know their own worth or learn about it during the story and men who stand on their own, but also support them. This may have been very rare, but I believe the books we read, shape how we look at the world. And therefore I like influencing myself through characters that fight, even or especially if they don't end up the bell of the ball, but still happy.
I listened to this series in order and I was happy to notice that I liked each book better than the last one. Even though I already liked the first one. I can't wait till the next comes out! I also apprecciate how political they are and especially how the author tries to but them in the correct historical context at the end.
The narrator is ok. Sometimes she's a little bit to dramatic for my taste. But never to point, where it realy bothered me. (Please excuse any mistakes. I am not a native speaker!

Great series!

I love this series, the novels explore classical romantic narratives and turns them into healthy relationships. The author does this so skillful and even sprinkles some easter eggs throughout the story. I also appreciate the different body types and characters of the heroines are celebrated without putting other woman down. It's great to see friendships valued alongside the romance. This one is my favourite so far. Just because I could identify withe Herriett so much. Reading about a neurodivergent heroine made me really happy. For me this is the perfect comfort read, it's proof: feminism is sexy!
