Über diesen Titel
Come on, Bayview, you know you've missed this.
A ton of copycat gossip apps have popped up since Simon died, but in the year since the Bayview four were cleared of his shocking death, no one's been able to fill the gossip void quite like he could. The problem is no one has the facts.
Until now.
This time it's not an app, though—it's a game.
Truth or Dare.
Phoebe's the first target. If you choose not to play, it's a truth. And hers is dark.
Then comes Maeve and she should know better—always choose the dare.
But by the time Knox is about to be tagged, things have gotten dangerous. The dares have become deadly, and if Maeve learned anything from Bronwyn last year, it's that they can't count on the police for help. Or protection.
Simon's gone, but someone's determined to keep his legacy at Bayview High alive. And this time, there's a whole new set of rules.
And don't miss Two Can Keep a Secret, Karen's third "must-read YA thriller" (Bustle)!

on the edge of my seat

I almost didn't guess who the culprit was, which for me is always a bonus as I usually guess early on. I found it better than one of us is lying and it intrigued me much more. I felt the first book failed to really captivate me but this story certainly did.
Even better than the first book

-good mystery
-better main characters than in book 1
-unproblematic
-characters are actually smart
-definitely too long
-subplot unconnected to main plot
-foreseeable for experienced readers/people who write themselves
Spoilers ahead!
One of us is lying is easily under the top 5 of the worst books I ever read. Paper cut out cliche characters, way too foreseable and a SUPER problematic suicide plot. I picked up McManus's second book Two Can Keep a Secret a while back and was definitely positively surprised. She really improved her characters and plot and left out mostly everything problematic/harmful/psychologically questionable. After I finished that I decided I should check this sequel out and I am again positively surprised. The older characters work really well as side characters and the new ones have much more dimension. The character constellation is sadly the same as in Two Can Keep a Secret, basically. Knox and Malcolm are the exact same character, just like Maeve and Sadie, Phoebe reminds me a lot of that girl who was murdered. BUT storywise this is definitely good. It's gripping and exiting, fun and mysterious. I liked that the characters decided to stop playing that truth or dare game. They learned from the last time which is nice. Even though we get text conversations from the murderers in between it's not actually obvious who it is and why they are doing it. That is lovely. BUT once Emma's drinking problem is revealed, you know what's up, not all of it, but most. Still this would be a well crafted mystery, if not a little too long. This time, the romances do not add anything to the story, main and subplot are not connected at all which is sad. The book is very long and I feel like it could've been shortened a ton by cutting down the subplot. It was a little boring at times
By far better than the first book
