More than 20 years have passed since the last plane took off from the earth. Rusted railways lead into emptiness. The ether is void and the airwaves echo to a soulless howling where previously the frequencies were full of news from Tokyo, New York, Buenos Aires. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms. Mutated by radiation, they are better adapted to the new world. Man's time is over.

A few score thousand survivors live on, not knowing whether they are the only ones left on earth. They live in the Moscow Metro - the biggest air-raid shelter ever built. It is humanity's last refuge. Stations have become mini-statelets, their people uniting around ideas, religions, water-filters - or the simple need to repulse an enemy incursion. Die Geschichte hat viele Facetten und neue Ideen und auch viele bekannte Situationen aber in einem neuen ungewöhnlichen setting .
Das Buch hat mich von vorn bis hinten gefesselt und ich habe jede freie Zeit genutzt um zu erfahren wie es weiter geht. Rupert Degas stimme passt zu dem Buch einfach optimal und er liefert eine großartige Performance .

Unglaublich spannende und ungewöhnliche Reise

Ich werde das Hörbuch hier in zwei Kategorien einteilen, das Hörbuch selbst und Sprecherleistung.
Das Hörbuch is erste Sahne! Der Autor nimmt den Leser mit ins postapokalyptische Moskau, genauer gesagt in die Metro darunter. Hier erlebt man die Geschichte des Jungen Artjom der aus seiner Heimatstation hinauszieht um das gruseln zu lernen. Nein natürlich nicht! Er zieht hinaus um die Bedrohung durch die "Dark Ones" zu eliminieren. Der Autor versteht es hierbei die grundgegebene Angst des Menschen vor dem Dunklen auszunutzen und zieht den Zuhörer durch detalierte Beschreibungen der Umgebung und der Körperreaktionen auf Angst in seinen Bann.
Denn in der Metro sind jetzt mutierte Ratten und Moster zugange und es passieren Dinge, die sich die Mensche nicht erklären können. Man fühlt quasi mit wenn der Protagonist einsam durch die verlassenen Tunnel der Metro schleicht, mit einer Taschenlampe die leider nicht sonderlich hell leuchtet...
Zum Sprecher sage ich nur GRANDIOS! Er intoniert den russichen Akzent im Englischen so gut das es sehr zur Atmosphäre beiträgt! Weiterhin gibt der den Verschiedenen Personen unterschiedlich Stimmen, Tonlagen und passt den Tonfall den jeweiligen Situationen an. Auch die (vermutlich) korrekte Aussprache der Sationsnamen, welche sich am Anfang schwer auseinanderhalten lassen trägt zum Gesamtbild teil.

Ich wünsche mir auch die ungekürzte Fassung von Metro 2034 und Metro 2035 (wenn es nun mal erscheint) auf Englisch.
Zum Verständnis kann ich nicht sonderlich viel sagen, da ich sehr gut in Englisch bin, Austauschschüler in den Südstaaten der USA für 1 Jahr und deshalb keine Probleme habe diverse Dialekte im Englischen zu verstehen. Ob man dieses Hörbuch jemandem Empfehlen kann der nicht so gut Englisch kann, lässt sich daher von meiner Seite schlecht beurteilen. Aber es gibt ja noch die (leider) gekürzte Fassung auf Deutsch.
