It’s good but it feels like a filler book

The style and adventure are just as good as the first two books, however it feels like the story is tying up a lot of loose ends without moving forward a lot.
It could have been tagged onto book two and make it feel complete.
I’m looking forward to the continuation, the anticipation feels identical to the one felt at the end of book two however

I was hoping for more

I like the characters in the book I like the trajectory that it is taking. But in all honesty it takes a little bit too much time to do all of those things I was really stoked for the expedition and the continuation off the main storyline as we both continue and it got more and more obvious but this was not going to happen I was slightly disappointed because this book transformed into more of a pure slice of life as its forebears. I still like the book and will buy the next one but if the next one does also barely anything for the continuation to the main plot I will probably stop listening to this serious.

I am a little torn about this one. It is good. Very good I would say. The main problem is that the story does not really progress. It feels like a filler, but it is interesting nevertheless. There is a lot of world building and daily life description, that is all good. In the last book I was already a little mift, that they did not start the expedition and now they do not in this book either. I hope that the next book will go into this, otherwise I would be highly disappointed.
I think I do not need to say anything about Travis Baldree. He is performing on the highest possible level as always.

I love this series it's gotten better with each book I'm looking forward to the next one to come.

Nothing happens

The first 2 books were fine, but in this book very little happens. Very minor events get entire chapters and it feels like the author isn't sure how to progress the main story. The reader/listener is left with a story that could have been 10 chapters at the end of book 2 instead of an entire book 3. I cannot stress enough how little the story advances.

Overuse of one writing device

The author massively overuses onomatopoeia as a tool for creating atmosphere - to the point that it overshadows the story. In fight scenes,almost every desription of moves is started by "BANG!", "SWOOSH!", "CCCRRRRACKLE!" or even "BANG! BANG! BANG!". Most of the time these are completely unnecessary because the actual (and more nuanced) description usually follows, such as "CRACK! The missiles hit the pavement like a hail of ice."
After 3 books of this, I can't stomach going on even though I'm still interested in the story.

Apart from this, the story is interesting, has new ideas and is overall a nice coming of age story.

Nothing happens & character arcs

I found it very tough to get through this book.
there is no real danger throughout the whole book, apart from one section.

Also the characters are getting too boring - every person acts perfectly virtuous in every imaginable way: its just too nice, smooth sailing & no one carries an interesting inner conflict.

Very likely won‘t read on after this one, which is a shame, as it started out very promising.
