Twain was also a staunch supporter of women's rights and an active campaigner for women's suffrage. His "Votes for Women" speech, in which he pressed for the granting of voting rights to women, is considered one of the most famous in history. He also supported and made speeches for the labor movement, especially one of the most important unions, the Knights of Labor. Mark Twain's Speeches were written between 1872 and 1909 (the year before his death).
