But Sandry has greater worries than Pasco. Ruthless assassins are working to eliminate a local merchant clan, and as the grisly deaths mount, it becomes clear they are using a terrifying power called Un-magic. Even more unnerving, halting their reign of terror will require not only Sandry’s magic, but Pasco’s as well.

Tamora Pierce has written another fantastic tale that takes place in the magical world of Emelan. Courtney Seymour's ethereal voice is perfect for Sandry, a 14-year-old mage whose magical power involves sewing and weaving. Andrew Hughes gives a boyish, mischievous portrayal of 12-year-old Pasco, a reluctant dancing mage who is Sandry's new student. Nearly every character's voice is perfect as Sandry and Pasco deal with murderers and dangerous "unmagic" to save Emelan. Pierce's magic as an author doesn't extend to her vocal style as a narrator. Her slow, over-enunciated narration is so detached that it's easy to let the mind wander. But the rest of the full cast enchants, bringing out the excitement of the story.
Magic Steps - the first book in the sequel to "Emelan Circle of Magic". Sandri is now living with her Great-Uncle Vedris and takes not only care of him, but also about the normal work at the Duke's citadel. By accident did her party met a young boy (Pasco), who seems to be an undiscovered dance mage. After talking with Lark, Sandri learns that she had to teach Paco the basics, less his magic starts to affect others.
However, this is easier said than done - Pasco's family had been harriers for generations, and not only does she need to convince Pasco about his magical talent, but also his close family, too. And to make it worse, a series of gruesome murders terrify the city. Could it be a family feud or something else? And how did they manage to kill, without disturbing the magical protection?
This belongs to my favourites among the books by Tamora Pierce. It's wonderful to see Sandri taking over the reigns and also have to deal with a stubborn young boy, similar to her and her foster-siblings, while also have to keep a watcheful eye on her Great-Uncle's health, and the murder series in the city.
However, I have to point out, that this series is written for an older audience, but it's still something that can be enjoyed, especially for once more coming back into the world of Emelan... Enjoy^^
