Lucy by the Sea holds a mirror up to everything we have been through recently. Not only reflecting disbelief, isolation and how different and at the same time similar we are to each other, but also what happens to human relationships when we can't be together. Dieses Buch aus der Reihe über Lucy Barton spielt während der Pandemie. Lucy hat das große Glück, New York verlassen zu können und mit ihrem Ex-Mann in ein Haus auf einer Klippe in Maine zu beziehen. Ihr Bick auf die Welt, ihr eigenes inneres Erleben und die Reflexion finde ich sehr feinfühlig beschrieben. Lucy ist eine bekannte Schriftstellerin, aber sie leidet an Minderwertigkeitsgefühlen. Sie hat Panikattacken, aber sie ist auch sehr mutig und liebevoll. Eine Person, mit der man sich identifizieren kann. Und die sich neu entwickelnde Beziehung zu ihrem Ex-Mann ist interessant zu verfolgen.
Die Sprecherin lässt Lucy als Menschen noch greifbarer werden.
Das war mein erster Roman, den ich von Elisabeth Strout gelesen habe. Jetzt nehme ich mir gleich den nächsten vor.
